Europol dismantles network organizing surreptitious immigration of Moldovans and Ukrainians
65 persons from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia have been interrogated by Europol within an operation of dismantling a surreptitious immigration network. The announcement was made by the European police cooperation authority Europol and the judicial authority Eurojust, Agence France Presse reports, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The network members are suspected to have organized the illegal immigration to the European Union (EU) for least 3,500 immigrants from Ukraine and Moldova.
The inquiry was started a year ago by the Spanish police regarding a network, whose organizers were Ukrainians by origin or ethnicity. Further, the police uncovered their connections with persons from other countries.
The clandestine immigrants had to pay from 1,900 to 2.300 euros for the travel, depending on the destination. The immigrants were hidden in cars and buses recorded in Ukraine or Moldova. They entered UE through Poland or Slovakia to reach Spain, Italy or Portugal.
