Europeans urged to be prepared for crises. New EU strategy

The European Commission has launched the Preparedness Union Strategy to support Member States and enhance Europe's capability to prevent and respond to emerging threats, IPN reports.

“New realities require a new level of preparedness in Europe. Our citizens, our Member States, and our businesses need the right tools to act both to prevent crises and to react swiftly when a disaster hits. Families living in flood zones should know what to do when the waters rise. Early warning systems can prevent regions hit by wildfires from losing precious time. Europe stands ready to support Member States and trusted partners in the neighborhood to save lives and livelihoods,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The strategy focuses on the improvement of warning systems, the continuity of healthcare services and the supply of drinking water.

European Commissioner for Preparedness, Equality and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib urged all citizens to be prepared for emergencies: "Ready for anything – this must be our new European way of life". In a video posted on social media, the official presented the important things that everyone should have to be able to survive for 72 hours in a crisis.
