European scholarships for journalists

The Euromonitor Foundation for Excellence, support by the AD Media Consult Agency, announces the continuation of the European JTI Scholarships for Journalists program, by launching the 2012-2013 edition. European JTI Scholarships for Journalists represents a program of professional encouragement and facilitation, and applies to journalists who want to become proficient in European issues, reports Info-Prim Neo. According to a communique from the foundation, this program helps participants to deepen their understanding of EU-related topics, its regulation framework, institution functioning, member states’ relations, as well as the manner in which western media approaches European issues. The “European JTI Scholarships for Journalists” program has three stages of professional training. Thus, the scholars will have specialized mentoring in Romania, by specialists in European relations. Afterwards, they will visit Brussels for a week, during which the journalists will be able to discuss with officials from the European Union. After that they would undergo three weeks of professional internships at some prestigious European press agencies. Journalists that pass are selected at the end of each stage. The 2012-2013 edition expects applicants both from Romania and Moldova, from written, radio, TV, and on-line media, specialized in social, political, and economic fields, with a 3-year minimum of experience, up to 35 years of age, with proficiency in English; proficiency in French is considered as a bonus. The application file will include a CV, application from that is downloadable from the Euromonitor website (www.euromonitor.ro), one passport-type colored photo, a portfolio with two press articles relevant to the aforementioned fields and three recommendation letters, one which should preferably be from the applicant’s direct superior or manager of the institution. The application deadline is October 10, 2012 (inclusively), all applications having the note “For European JTI Scholarships”. The European JTI Scholarships for Journalists program was launched in 2007, the year Romania entered the European Union, as a continuation of the internship program initiated by National Forum Foundation/Freedom House in the 90’s, with the support of the US Government, and consequently, starting with 2000, the financial support of JTI.
