“The politicians in Moldova must forget that they can manage the country the same way as earlier. The coalition is today only half created. Not all the European forces form part of the government coalition. I consider this is shortage of stability,” MEP Petras Austrevicius, Rapporteur for Moldova in the European Parliament, said in an interview for the paper “Ziarul de Gard”a, quoted by IPN.
The European official said the outcome of the parliamentary elections showed that the pro-European forces scored a victory to the limit and he thought that this result will make the winning political forces to cover the shortest path to forming a government coalition so as to move on swiftly. “We know that forming a coalition is never an easy process. There are different parties with different political ambitions and schemes. However, the clock is ticking and time is going away. Instead of having an invested Government, with all the institutions working on the association agenda, the discussions last and last. The European Parliament is concerned about this situation. It’s not pleasant to look at this situation when there are no firm decisions and tangible results,” stated Petras Austrevicius.
He noted that the association agenda with the EU must be implemented and powerful political will and administrative capacity must exist for this to happen. “The people need accomplishments, not discussions. Otherwise, the time is lost. It won’t be easy to achieve again the result of the November elections. The pro-European parties must go on as soon as possible, but we do not see prospects. We are rather disappointed,” said the MEP.
He also said that corruption is a disease that can be combated by not involving the political class. “I do not trust the so-called independent corruption investigating institutions, which are in fact puppets of the political parties. Changes will not be made this way, while the EU bodies will not take into account the false corruption combating steps. Therefore, the Moldovan politicians who will come to Brussels to discuss with the EU leaders will blush because the issue of corruption will definitely be raised. It’s time for real changes to take place in Moldova, not in Brussels. I want to say that we are not blind and we monitor the situation,” stated Petras Austrevicius.
He noted that Moldova was the bright star of the Eastern Partnership, but its pace has now slowed down. It is a crisis of good news from Moldova. The situation in the region is very difficult and determined steps forward must be taken.
