European Parliament approves of progress made by Moldova
European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said in the European Parliament that Moldova has progressed significantly on the path towards European integration, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Stefan Fule said the relations between Moldova and the EU have developed and considerable progress had been made in a short period of time. But at the national level, Moldova has yet to deal with many challenges. Democracy and the state of law should be further strengthened. The EU will continue to support this process. The European official stressed that all the political forces must cooperate to elect the head of state and constitute a Government that will implement the necessary reforms.
MEP on behalf of the Group of the European People's Party Monica Macovei said Moldova is the country with the highest number of accomplishments within the Eastern Partnership and requested the European Commission to assess it individually.
MEP Graham Watson, of the Liberal Party, said a method to break the impasse will be found on October 25, when the Council of Europe will analyze the visa regime for Moldova.
Social-Democrat MEP Adrian Severin said the political instability affected the situation in Moldova and hindered the implementation of more reforms.
Earlier, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said the Republic of Moldova might obtain the road map for liberalizing the visa regime with the EU on October 25, when the EU foreign ministers will come together for a meeting.
