The European Parliament gave its final consent to the liberalization of the wine imports of the EU member states from Moldova. The measure was proposed by the European Commission shortly after Russia imposed a ban on the imports of Moldova wine, IPN reports, quoting the website of the Romanian agency Agerpres.
The decision was taken on December 10 by adopting the report of MEP Iuliu Winkler themed “Autonomous trade preferences for Moldova”, by a majority of 503 votes. The European Parliament convened in Strasbourg.
For the decision to liberalize the wine imports to be applied, it must be formally approved by the Council and then published in the Official Journal of the European Union in all the 24 languages of the bloc. Rapporteur Iuliu Winkler said that after the approval of the decision by the European Parliament, it will come into force on January 1, 2014.
