European officials sure that Moldova will initial Association Agreement and will then sign it

The European officials are sure that Moldova will initial the Association Agreement at the Vilnius Summit of this November and will then sign it next spring. Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told a news conference that the signing of the documents will enable Moldova to develop and to integrate into the EU, IPN reports.

“We are sure that we will initial the Association Agreement with Moldova and that you will sign it next year. I remember the times when we implemented difficult reforms in Poland. The accession prospects were vague and very many people doubted that we will succeed. The implemented reforms turned out to be good. I encourage you to keep on this path and to maintain political consensus. You should maintain the pro-European coalition because Moldova already has many admirers in Europe. If you persist, you will succeed and we will help you,” said Radosław Sikorski.

As to the relations with Russia, the Polish minister said that nobody forces Moldova to break up the relations with Russia. On the contrary, after Moldova becomes part of the EU these relations will multiply.

Carl Bildt said that when he visited Moldova in February, things were more difficult, but they managed to bring stability. The agreements that will be initialed and then signed will bring significant economic benefits to Moldova.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that he discussed Moldova’s European agenda and the program of events before and after the Vilnius Summit with the European officials. ”I informed the ministers about our internal preoccupations, not only about the censure motion, but especially about our plans in economy. We intend to eliminate the constraints, to stimulate investments, to create workplaces and to continue to fight corruption,” he stated, adding that they also discussed the regional developments, which the EU generally follows.

The European officials met with the leaders of the parties of the pro-European coalition and the Head of the EU Delectation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola. The working visit of the two officials ends on October 23.
