European observers invited again to so-called presidential elections in Transnistria

The election commission of Transnistrian will invite European officials to supervise the so-called presidential elections, the Tiraspol press reported, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. On the other hand, the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Moldova Iurie Ciocan said no European official was and will be present at such elections. According to the portal newspmr.com, the invitations will be sent to representatives of the CIS, UN, OSCE and the EU. There will be also invited the Secretary General of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev, UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Audronjus Ajubalis, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs ands Security Policy Catherine Ashton. The electoral authority of the unrecognized republic will send invitations to the election commissions of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Mountainous Karabakh and to a number of NGOs. “The representatives of the unrecognized Transnistrian regime have always made initiations, but nobody accepted them except for Russia and the breakaway republics of Georgia. They always invite officials so that the elections be legitimate. But they never coordinated their activities with the electoral authority of Moldova. They work according to their own norms and we received no report from them,” Iurie Ciocan stated for Info-Prim Neo. The so-called presidential elections in Transnistria will take place in December. The election campaign was launched at the start of this week. There are more than 400,000 people eligible to vote in the Transnistrian region.
