European MP rules out possibility of territorial split of Moldova

“Moldova is a territorially integral and unitary state and there can be no talk about a territorial split”, stated on Tuesday, August 21, Graham Watson, rapporteur of the European Parliament for Moldova’s Agreement of Association with the EU, who came to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The official, who is also the leader of European Liberal Democratic and Reformist Party (ELDR), met with the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu. Afterwards, Graham Watson told the press that Moldova achieved important progresses, especially in the Agreement of Association with the EU and the liberalization of the visa regime. However, according to the European parliamentarian, Moldovan authorities have to work a lot to implement the adopted laws. Besides, the rapporteur stressed the need to fight corruption. PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said he was convinced Europe was close to the Moldovans and despite many problems, it was convened to go together on the chosen path. Ghimpu added that he assured the European partners that the reforms needed to bring Moldova closer to the European standards would be implemented. The ELDR leader is visiting Moldova between August 19 and 22. The British European MP also discussed with the MPs from the Liberal parliamentary group and met with the PL representatives from the Government. Afterwards, he went on a working visit in Tiraspol.
