European Left concerned about undermining of democratic institutions in Moldova
“The European Left condemns the irresponsible neo-Liberal policy aimed at undermining the democratic institutions in Moldova,” the Left Group in the European Parliament says in a statement that was published on the website of the Communists Party (PCRM), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The statement says that after the July 29 early elections, the PCRM, which won 44% of the vote, was forced to shift to the Opposition. “We consider that the first steps taken by the new government represent a step backward in the development of the democratic institutions in Moldova. The recent amendments to the Broadcasting Code, the ignoring of the Opposition's rights, the substantial modifications in the social security policies, the lack of continuity in solving the Transnistrian dispute lead to considerable instability in the Moldovan society,” the statement reads.
It also says that “the Liberal-Democratic coalition initiated a campaign to suppress the freedom of expression by trying to close the critical media outlets and those of the Opposition” like the radio station Antena C, the news agency Omega, the public company Teleradio-Moldova.
The European Left calls on the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe to play a more active role in stopping and preventing the violation of the human rights, suppression of democracy and discrediting of the European values.
