The 27 European leaders will reaffirm their firm support for the Republic of Moldova’s accession path and underline the European Union’s ongoing assistance to Moldova, to continue its reforms and to strengthen its resistance and stability. This is one of the provisional conclusions of the meeting of EU leaders, which are to be adopted on Friday, at the end of the summit, radiomoldova.md reports, quoted by IPN.

The European Council also reaffirms its commitment to the Republic of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemns Russia’s persistent attempts to use manipulation and false information to undermine democratic elections and the Moldovan people’s choice of a European future.

According to the provisional conclusions, the European Council reiterates its concern about Georgia’s course of actions, which is contrary to the values and principles on which the European Union is founded.

European Council President Charles Michel wrote on Twitter that he had invited the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to personally present his “plan for victory” today and tomorrow in Brussels at the EU summit (initially, Zelensky was supposed to inform the leaders via videoconference, but he is now expected to come to the meeting). According to the draft conclusions, “the European Council calls for the rapid intensification of military support and the acceleration of its delivery, in particular air defense systems, ammunition and missiles, necessary for the defense of the population of Ukraine.”

The quoted source also informs that the European leaders support the idea of using the interest on frozen Russian funds to support Ukraine in the war. At the same time, the G7 group is called upon to respect its commitment to provide Ukraine with about€ 45 billion by the end of this year.

In his invitation, Charles Michael also wrote that the European leaders will focus on the Middle East because “one year after the Hamas attacks on the Israeli people, the situation has worsened dramatically, the humanitarian situation has worsened, with an unacceptable number of civilian casualties.”

The official noted that an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages remain top priorities. The European Council must strongly advocate de-escalation and insist on the respect for international and humanitarian law. “The recent attacks on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon are irresponsible and unacceptable. The safety of UN staff and humanitarian workers must be protected. European leaders will also reaffirm their strong support for the UN and its Secretary-General,” noted the quoted source.
