The European Heritage Days will be celebrated on September 22-30 this year. The Ministry of Culture, together with four national museums, by common agreement with the local public authorities, public associations and volunteer organizations, will organize a series of events. The public will be able to take part in exhibitions, conferences, roundtable meetings and public lessons. Free access will be ensured to heritage sites and restoration sites, IPN reports.
This year, the European Heritage Days start at the National Museum of Arts where two permanent collections of sculpture, ceramics and decorative arts and of universal arts are presented in the recently renovated “Dadiani” Building. The same day, it is inaugurated the International Biennial of Painting Chisinau – 2021.
“The Ministry of Culture returns to one of its basic practices: protection, conservation and promotion of the cultural heritage. The Government worked out the action plan for 2021-2022, where we set the designing of policies on cultural heritage a priority. The Ministry of Culture will focus on the improvement of the normative framework on the protection of the tangible and intangible heritage. I want to note here that the traditions and customs need to be cleaned, while the authentic values need to be promoted,” Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan stated in a news conference.
As part of the European Heritage Days, the National Museum of Arts inaugurates the last section of “Dadiani” Building and the seventh International Biennial of Painting Chisinau – 2021. The Museum’s director Tudor Zbârnea said that this day plays a major role in the museum’s history. “We are glad that we managed to restore this section that is 1,400 square meters in area, which was made accessible to persons with disabilities and was outfitted according to the museum norms. This was done for the community and everyone will benefit,” said the director.
The other institutions that will stage events on the occasion of the European Heritage Days are the National Literature Museum “Mihail Kogălniceanu, the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History and the Natural-Cultural Reserve “Orheiul Vechi”.
The European Heritage Days have been observed during over 35 years, with the first edition being held in France. The events staged to celebrate the event are designed to sensitize public opinion to the importance of cultural heritage.
