European grants for urban infrastructure and community development

Republic of Moldova will gain access to European funding and modern solutions for urban development, infrastructure improvement, and enhancing people's quality of life. The Parliament has ratified the Financing Agreement between Moldova, the European Commission, and the French National Agency for Territorial Cohesion for the URBACT IV 2021–2027 Program, IPN reports.

The URBACT IV Program focuses on financing key priority areas, including urban mobility and efficient land use, sustainable urban development, energy transition, and strengthening the institutional capacity of local authorities.

According to the project, the Republic of Moldova, as a beneficiary, will have the opportunity to access financial resources in the form of grants totaling over €86.76 million for the implementation of joint projects.

Lilia Dabija, Deputy Secretary-General of the Government, stated that the agreement requires beneficiaries to co-finance at least 10% of the project budget. However, for Moldova, the European Commission has expressed its willingness to cover 90% of the contribution. Thus, the total program budget will exceed €110 million, with participating countries contributing €23.33 million. Moldova and Ukraine will each be eligible for up to €2 million in funding.

The Financing Agreement between Moldova, the European Commission, and the French National Agency for Territorial Cohesion for the URBACT IV 2021–2027 Program was signed on December 12, 2024.
