European cuisine and traditions in Chisinau on Europe Day

Those who went in the Great National Assembly Square today, May 7, had the opportunity to taste some of the EU countries’ cuisine. The boldest could participate in contests organized by European embassies and missions accredited in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of the Consular Section of the Czech Embassy, Olga Chojnacka, said this was the second time the Czech Republic participated in the Europe Days in Chisinau. At the Czech pavilion, there were many informational materials. Besides, the organizers held a quiz contest with prizes for those who answered questions about the Czech Republic. Bartosz Cmoch, politics and mass media expert of the Polish Embassy, said that Poland had three pavilions: with materials, cuisine of portraits of famous people smiling. Visitors had the chance to try the bigos, a Polish tradition dish of cabbage, vegetables and meat. Nadeja Sinalskaia, representative of the Embassy of Belgium, mentioned that potatoes and beer were very popular. “The Moldovans waited in line to taste Belgian dishes”, she said. The Turkish ambassador, Ahmet Ferit Ulker, spoke about the diversity of Turkish cuisine. The most sought-after were minced meat croquettes, Turkish eggplant salad with pumpkin, vegetable salads and others. The diplomat appreciated the chance to promote Turkey in Chisinau. The Union of Moldovan Artisans had a pavilion as well. Ruslan Scutelnic exposed ceramic works about Moldova. Small barrels, funny figurines and grapes were in demand. According to him, the Moldovans bought more objects than the foreign visitors. This was the second time Europe Day was celebrated in the Great National Assembly Square.
