European Council President invited to Chisinau by Iurie Leanca

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca congratulated his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk on his appointment as the President of the European Council on August 30. He said that the new President of the European Council is a big friend of Moldova, IPN reports.

The two officials had a telephone conversation. According to the Government’s press service, the Moldovan Premier wished Donald Tusk success in the new post, expressing his conviction that the Polish official has all the necessary qualities to resolve the profound crisis faced in the region. He invited Donald Tusk to visit Moldova in the near future in order to agree the calendar of the European perspective.

The two also conferred on the EU assistance in reforming the justice sector and the Polish loan provided recently to Moldovan farmers, namely the ensuring of increased flexibility and diminution of bureaucracy for farmers. The Prime Minister of Poland, which is one of the countries that suggested launching the Eastern Partnership, said that his country will continue to support Moldova in doing reforms and in the European integration process.

Donald Tusk will take up as President of the European Council on December 1.
