European Commissioner Johannes Hahn urges Moldova to speed up reforms

Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, has urged the Moldovan authorities to speed up reforms.

Meeting Moldovan acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca in Brussels, Johannes Hahn highlighted the need to step up reform in particular in the filed of justice and fight against corruption as well as in ensuring a sustainable economic growth to improve people's living standards. The Commissioner stressed the availability of the European Union to consolidate in 2015 its support to the justice reform, with a focus on improving the work of judges, prosecutors and anti-corruption officers.

Iurie Leanca stated for his part that the new coalition of pro-European parties aims to fulfill all the commitments on the European integration agenda and it will need the EU's full support to accomplish this. A first occasion for taking concrete steps towards speeding up reforms radically in a number of key areas such as justice, the banking sector, combating of corruption and decentralization, will be at the first meeting of the Association Council on 19 January 2015.
