The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will pay a working visit to the Republic of Moldova on Thursday. The official is scheduled to meet with President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
“The visit underlines the growing relationship between Chisinau and Brussels. The Republic of Moldova obtained the EU candidate status in June 2022 and officially started accession negotiations in June this year,” the presidential administration in Chisinau said.
Ursula von der Leyen and Maia Sandu will hold a press briefing at the State Residence on Nicolae Iorga St. Journalists are expected to come starting at 10:30 a.m. and no later than 10:50 a.m.
Citing sources in Brussels, RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service last week reported that the European Union is expected provide Moldova with financial assistance in the amount of €1.8 billion for the next three years. The assistance is to be officially announced by Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Chisinau.
