The reform priorities for the spring session of Parliament and the acceleration of the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU with the aim of taking the overdue steps represent some of the subjects discussed by Head of Parliament Andrian Candu in a meeting with a delegation of the European Commission that is in Moldova on a visit. The European officials called on the Moldovan authorities to continue doing reforms by keeping the pace or even accelerating it and setting clear priorities together with the Government and definite implementation timeframes, IPN reports.
According to the legislature’s press service, Andrian Candu said the legislative program for fulfilling the commitments assumed through the Association Agreement for 2015-2016 lays at the basis of the agendas of the parliamentary sessions of 2016. “There is will to improve things. We started energetically the spring session with the firm objective of continuing the reforms at an accelerated pace. In the first two sittings of Parliament, we discussed and adopted important laws that were awaited by society and the development partners. Next week we will also consider a number of important bills,” said the Speaker.
He also said that Parliament aims to swiftly ensure the adjustment of the national legislation to the Community acquis, to synchronize the actions of the legislative body and the executive in implementing the Association Agreement and to more actively engage civil society in the lawmaking process. For the first time, Parliament will be assisted by an EU high-level adviser, who, by his expertise, will contribute to strengthening the legislature’s capacities to implement the Association Agreement.
The sides also discussed the procedure for selecting the National Bank governor. Andrian Candu said that a candidate for this post will be presented to Parliament after all the contenders are interviewed next week.
