European Commission asks European Parliament not to delay provision of financial assistance to Moldova

The European Commission requested the European Parliament not to delay the provision of the €100 million in macro-financial assistance intended for Moldova, IPN reports, quoting Radio Free Europe.

“We hope an agreement will be swiftly reached between legislators so that we avoid any unwanted delay in providing the macro-financial assistance,” Annika Breidthardt, spokeswoman for the European Commission, stated for Radio Free Europe in Brussels.

The statement was made after two groups from the European Parliament, of the Europe People’s Party and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, made approaches to postpone discussions on the provision of the EU macro-financial assistance to Moldova in opposition to the attempt by a part of the Moldovan political class to change the electoral system.
