European Action Movement announces party extension

The European Action Movement (MAE) says that new members have lately joined the party and the membership rose from about 7,000 several months ago, when the party was registered, to approximately 10,000 at present. At a news conference on Wednesday, MAE officials announced that the MPs Ion Neagu and Zoia Jalba joined the party. They also announced the creation of the MAE organisation in Soroca. Soroca Branch president Ana Bejan said that the organisation was constituted on October 14. Over 120 delegates took part in its opening. He said that a large part of the electorate is undecided and desperate because the political leaders betrayed the national ideals which they fought for. There is a political gap in rural areas and the people decide to join MAE, Ana Bejan said. Iurie Tanase, vice president of the Soroca Branch, said that the territorial organisation, as well as MAE, aims to attract competent people, regardless of their number. MAE vice chairman Ion Neagu said that most of the political projects in the last few years have been discredited. He said MAE is the political organisation of the people that were disappointed by the performance of the politicians in April 2005 and in the recent period, when forming the local public administrations, process that turned into a fair for distributing posts, the cited source said. MAE chairman Anatol Petrencu said that the party is joined by all those that shared ideals wiped out by the political party leaders. For that reason, Moldova missed the chance of joining the EU. In this connection, the MAE leader said that most of those that join the movement are former members or supporters of the Christian-Democratic People’s Party and of the Social Liberal Party. At the same conference, Petrencu expressed MAE’s position on the incident that happened at Leuseni Customs, when several Romanian delegations heading for Chisinau to take part in the City Day were hindered from crossing the Moldovan border. MAE asks the Parliament to examine the case and inform the public who is to blame for the incident and what measures are taken to avoid similar situations in the future. The constitution congress of MAE took place on October 22, 2006. The Ministry of Justice registered the party only in April 2006, following a judgment of the Supreme Court of Justice.
