European Action gains new members despite government refusal to register it

“The European Action” Movement (EAM) together with the Democrat Forum of Romanians in Moldova (DFRM) pleads for the Moldova’s EU full membership. The Movement calls on its members and supporters to collect signatures in order to attach them to the request of the civil society from Moldova to join the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. Party’s leader Anatol Petrencu told a press conference on Wednesday, January 17 that in order to fulfil the integration goal, EAM will advocate for involving the civil society into an active campaign on informing the population about the advantages of the integration, and all the national and local decision-makers authorities about the principles and conditions of the European integration. According to Petrencu, despite the fact that the communist government is opposing to the registration of EAM, its presence on the political stage will be noticeable due to its actions and initiatives, as well as due to the promotion of democratic values in what concerns the development of the civil society in Moldova. One of these actions will be the organisation of a protest meeting against the crimes of the communist government, Petrencu said, giving the example of the municipal stations “Antena C” and “Euro TV”, and the outrage at the headquarters of “Timpul de dimineata” newspaper etc. The sources affirms that the members of EAM, who are revolted at the refuse to register the party, intended to picket the Ministry of Justice (MJ), but the Chisinau City Hall rejected the authorisation request because “the party is not registered”. The MJ delays EAM’s registration, saying that a part of those 6639 signatures of the party members are forged. The lists are verified by the General Prosecution Office, which did not inform the leaders of the party about the result of the investigation. All these obstacles created by the government only attract new members, Petrencu stated. The former leader of Budesti territorial representation of PPCD, Constntin Lapusneanu told the same news conference that he left the People’s Christian Democrat Party that “betrayed the national interests”, and joined EAM. According to him, a significant part of those 86 Christian Democrats from the village might follow his example.
