European Action accuses Communists of dirty campaigning

The European Action Movement (MAE) accuses the Communist Party (PCRM) of using dirty and totalitarian tricks in the battle for the Rezina District Council. MAE leader Anatol Petrencu told a news conference today that a representative of the Movement running for district councillor was blackmailed and threatened with sacking if he didn’t quit the race. In Cuizauca village, the principal of the local school and also a PCRM member impeded the representative of MAE from meeting with the voters in the village. Furthermore, Vadim Mishin, a Communist MP, during a meeting with the electorate told the audience that the residents of Rezina district wouldn’t get extra government subsidies if they didn’t vote for Communist candidates. These and other examples prove that the Communist Party is still totalitarian in essence and has a long way to go to truly embrace the values of the European spirit, Anatol Petrencu said. MAE condemns these instances of abuse of authority by the Communists and calls attention of the national and international public opinion to the serious violations of the Electoral Code by the PCRM candidates, the Movement said in a press statement. Polls for the Rezina District Council are due on Sunday, November 11.
