The Europe Days in Moldova have been inaugurated in Chisinau's Great National Assembly Square on Saturday with officials calling for unity and participation, Info-Prim Neo reports. Moldova President Nicolae Timofti noted that the “formidable mobilization” of people and politicians in Europe made the European Union functional and people in Moldova should promote this ambitious European integration project to achieve modernization. “Some of us have doubts about this window of opportunities opening before us. I can understand these reservations and I won't condemn them. My call to you is to evaluate things so that we can walk this path together. We have defined this European integration project as a national one. This means that regardless of our political options or ethnic affiliation, we should all put our shoulders to the wheel and fulfill this objective”, urged Nicolae Timofti. Prime Minister Vlad Filat noted that each year on Europe Days people in Moldova have an opportunity to communicate interactively. “Today we mark the unity of the European construction which represents an act of supreme will to shape the future of European nations in terms of shared identity, values and principles. Europe means democracy, respect for human rights, and Europe in the 21st century also means communication, openness and participation”, he stated, adding that the Europe Days should be an occasion for the Moldovan people to recall that Europe assists Moldova on a daily basis, offering concrete solutions when they are needed. Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, noted that this cooperation between the EU and Moldova, built on the Eastern Partnership platform, aims for the gradual political association and economic integration of Moldova. “We will continue to offer our full support to Moldova within the framework of the European Partnership. We will continue to contribute financially despite the ongoing financial crisis. Moldova will receive further financing to carry on the started reforms”. Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca also noted that since 2009 Moldova has been looking for a project to unify Moldovans and this project is European integration, which implies freedom, security and confidence. “For this we need to be united. If we can't do this, our children will”, said the Mayor. Europe Days is an occasion for Moldovan people to get to know more about the EU member countries, with multiple events being organized in Chisinau and Comrat during May 12-19.
