Europe Day is celebrated today, May 19, in Gagauzia’s Comrat. A series of activities will be staged in the town’s central square starting with 2pm, which are aimed at promoting the European values and cultural diversity and at informing the public about the assistance provided by the European Union to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the organizers, as in Chisinau the “European Village” will be the centre of Europe Days celebrations, where the embassies of the EU Member States will present their culture, European cuisines and national identity in food tents. The visitors will also be able to taste Italian tortellini, Spanish paella (a dish of rice and sea fruit), and Czech beer. The representatives of Germany, France, Turkey, Estonia and Belgium will also present traditional foods. ‘Linguistic corners’ will be set up within the “European Village”, where the visitors will be able to learn key words and phrases in different languages of the EU. The activities include tw public debates in a question-answer format on political and economic aspects of the cooperation between the EU and Moldova. Moldovans will be able to ask questions and speak face to face with EU ambassadors, high-ranking Moldovan officials and representatives of the local authorities. The debates will last for 90 minutes. The children will draw on asphalt with colored chalk. The most active ones will receive presents from the EU Delegation to Moldova. The activities in Comrat were to end with a concert involving singers from Moldova and abroad, but was cancelled because May 19 was delcared a National Morning Day for Maria Biesu. A similar program took place in Chisinau on May 12. Europe Day is organized by the EU Delegation to Moldova. The activities will be sponsored by Sudzucker, Orange, Agroindbank Moldova and Flor Art.
