The worries of some politicians from Chisinau related to the upcoming NATO military applications are groundless and prove miscomprehension and a biased interpretation of the neutrality concept, chairman of the Euro Atlantic Association, Sergiu Burca states. A declaration signed by Mr. Burca says that the R. Moldova as member of the NATO “Partnership for Peace” program and as signer of the Individual Partnership Plan with NATO, has a chance to co-operate with its partners within the frameworks of this program, including with Russia, in as many as 24 fields, such as support of the democratic control over the armed forces, fighting against terrorism etc. Partners may choose from more than 1.400 specific individual activities, including experts’ visits, workshops, courses and military trainings. So, the expert insists, NATO applications scheduled for September 11-29, are part of this wide array of individual activities, provided for in the agreements and treaties signed between Moldova and NATO, fully complying with Moldova’s legislation and Constitution. “Bringing back to life resentments towards NATO could be accounted for reflexes dating back the cold war and by no means as a sign of political maturity. This kind of politics has no chance in this zone close to the Euro Atlantic security area,” Mr. Burca says. Previously, 3 political opposition parties from Moldova – the Republican People’s, the Moldovan Socialists’ parties and the Social Political Movement “Ravnopravie” argued against military maneuvers on the territory of the RM. According to these parties, the NATO applications defy the Constitution, which provides for Moldova’s neutrality under any circumstances. At the same time, critics claim, these actions will shaken the state of the Transnistrian conflict. The NATO military applications Longbow/Lancer will take place from September 11 to 29 on the shooting grounds near Bulboaca village.
