Eurasia monitors to oversee Moldovan elections at polling places abroad

Nineteen observers accredited by the Representative Office of Eurasia Foundation in Moldova will monitor the July 29 elections at the polling stations opened at the Embassies of Moldova in Moscow, Bucharest, Rome, Bologna, London, Paris, Athens, Brussels, and Washington DC, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Foundation. The given polling places were selected owing to the high turnout of voters at the previous legislative polls. The monitors will supervise all the electoral procedures, including the opening of and closing of the polling stations, the voting process and the vote counting process. On the election day, the Representative Office of Eurasia in Moldova will regularly provide information about the voting process at the mentioned stations. When the polling places are closed, the monitoring results will be published on the website of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Coalition 2009 – www.alegeliber.md. “We consider that the presence of observers will contribute to a better voting process, increased civic conscience of the voters and to the observance of the democratic principles of hooding free and fair elections,” the quoted source said. The monitoring of the elections abroad will be carried out with the financial support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the United States Agency for International Development.
