People's Artist Eugenia Todorascu, a theater and film actress, died this morning around 4:00, aged 73, at a hospital in Chisinau having suffered from a host of illnesses. Her colleagues remember her as a talented actress who would brighten up the stage, Info-Prim Neo understands.
Eugenia Todorascu passed away in hospital where she had spent her last two weeks. “The doctors said many of her organs had failed, but I don't know the exact diagnosis”, said Tatiana Omrihina, the actress' daughter.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, July 22.
Eugenia Todorascu played most of her roles at Luceafarul Theater. Ex-Culture Minister Ion Ungureanu, Luceafarul director during 1964-1971, says Eugenia Todorascu was a genuine artist, a personality that forged her destiny with her own hands. “She created very distinct roles and she was a complete character on stage. She had this great artistry that attracted the spectator into the play”, Ion Ungureanu told Info-Prim Neo. “She was part of a lively troupe that would brighten up the stage. Without her, this is no longer possible”.
Aliona Strimbeanu, department head at the Ministry of Culture, says Eugenia Todorascu was a very energetic actress for whom art meant life and who worked until her final breath. “She played many different types of characters, from tragedy to drama to comedy. An extraordinary performance scope”.
Eugenia Todorascu was born in 1936 in Tiraspol district. She performed at Luceafarul, Cehov, Eugene Ionesco, and in her final years she played and taught at the Rose Valley Theater.
