The phrase “one step forward and two steps back” perfectly describes the political situation in Chisinau, considers Romanian MP Eugen Tomac, who commented for IPN on the formation of a minority government coalition, supported by the Party of Communists, in Moldova. The lawmaker does not believe that the European integration pace in Moldova will be now as earlier, when Europe supported unconditionally this process and there was more determination in Chisinau.
“Renouncing a firm coalition that would continue what Moldova managed to do until recently and accepting the support of a party whose political objective is to continue Stalin’s line seems too much to me. Voronin is the same man we know. In 2009, he unilaterally and abusively introduced visas for Romanian citizens. He also said that the tricolor is a fascist flag and ordered ill-treating the young people in 2009. Replacing the allegedly much more radical opponent camp with somebody who is more moderate is an illusion and I’m deeply disappointed by what is going on now in Chisinau,” stated Eugen Tomac.
He also said that the created situation represents practically a slap given to Romania. ”A consensus in Moldova’s interests wasn’t reached. I mean the fact that the coalition expected by many people wasn’t created,” noted the MP.
Last week, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party constituted the Political Alliance for the European Moldova after obtaining the Party of Communists’ assurance that they will help elect the administration of Parliament and invest the new Government.
