Moldova obtained a new medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival that is taking place in Hungary’s Gyor. After Petru Pelivan won silver in the 66kg class, another Moldovan judoka mounted the third step of the winner’s rostrum, IPN reports.
Eugen Matveichuk, who carried Moldova’s flag at the opening ceremony, won a bronze medal in the 81 kg class. He started the competition with a victory against Farih Kosa of Turkey and then beat Georgia’s Vladimir Akhalkatsi in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Matveichuk lost to Russia’s Mansur Lorsanov, but won 10-0 against Guy Gurevitch of Israel in the fight for the bronze medal.
