The first deputy chairman of the European People’s Party, unaffiliated MP Eugen Carpov said he cannot have confidence in the Party of Communists (PCRM), which is an opportunist party with an old ideology that wants to return to power by all kinds of ‘political acrobatic acts’. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, the lawmaker said he admits that the post of Prime Minister could be held again by Iurie Leanca, IPN reports.
“The Communist MPs changed the ‘cap’, as in the famous Russian film, for several times: they said that they support the Gaburici Government, but ultimately voted for its dismissal. I personally do not have confidence in the Party of Communists. It is an opportunist party with an old ideology that is making effort to mislead the people by using symbols dating from the sad past of the Soviet Union and that presents itself as a modern party, with European elements even, when it needs,” stated Eugen Carpov.
Asked what majority coalition can be formed in the current legislature, the MP said there are two variants –a center-right one and a center-left one. A center-left alliance would generate again long periods when Moldova would take steps backward. On the other hand, a fragile center-right coalition could be formed as a powerful and sincere one, with clear rules between those taking part in it, is now not possible.
“I think Moldova does not have another chance as the second variant, about which I spoke, is the coming to power of center-left forces that orient themselves to Russia and to the Eurasian integration,” stated the MP. According to him, things in Moldova go wrong and if this state is captive, this thing should be recognized and all the healthy, pro-European forces should try and deal with such a state of affairs after going through a process of purification.
Asked if Iurie Leanca could be promoted to premiership, Eugen Carpov said Leanca has all the capacities needed to hold this post and his appointment depends not on the European People’s Party, but on the result of discussions within the possible alliance. He considers such a scenario is possible.
