There are many persons in the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) who are ready to leave the party and to join the political project that will be launched by Iurie Leanca soon, MP Eugen Carpov, ex-Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration who is close to the former Premier, said in the program “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
According to Carpov, some of these persons are intimidated by the leaders of the PLDM and do not have the courage to publicly announce their intentions. “Many of our former colleagues from the PLDM have the same views, but probably do not yet have the necessary courage. Some of them already joined out project, but didn’t make public statements. Erroneous messages about the role of Leanca and Carpov are yet being disseminated,” he stated.
Eugen Carpov also said that the party that Iurie Leanca is now forming will most probably take part in the local elections. “It would be normal for the local elections to take place this June or July. But many say they will be postponed. If they take place in autumn, we will manage to strengthen our future party, if they do not hamper us. We will field our own candidates so as to gain power at local level,” he said.
He also said that the probability of early parliamentary elections is high. “The situation is now very unpredictable and it’s impossible to forecast the developments in three months. The current government has to deal with many challenges. I mean the local elections and then the presidential elections. But the financial-economic situation is yet the most serious challenge. It’s not known if the current coalition will be able to cope. They speak about the European course, but it’s hard to say how it will be implemented by the ‘watermelon’ coalition,” stated Carpov.
Asked about the involvement of businessmen Anatol Stati and Ion Sturza in Iurie Leanca’s political project, Eugen Carpov said Stati is not involved because he has close relations with Leanca and this would cause speculations, while discussions with Sturza haven’t been yet held.
