Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov considers that a Russian consulate on the territory of the Transnistrian region is not needed for the time being. He made the statement in a news conference on April 20, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I think that we cannot yet open consulates in Transnistria as the international conventions oblige us to ensure their security and immunity. We cannot accept actions that make us responsible for certain aspects because we are unable to fulfill them de facto. Today it is not possible,” said Eugen Carpov. Earlier, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said in an interview that the Transnistrian region is a component part of Moldova and it is normal to have a consulate in Tiraspol, as the consulates in Balti, Cahul, and Ungheni. But, until this happens, Moldova should have a series of regulations resulting from the real situation concerning diplomatic security in the region.
