Eugen Carpov demands addressing political subjects in Transnistrian settlement

Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Carpov insists on addressing political issues in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format. The request was made in a meeting with the new Special Representative of Ukraine for the Transnistrian settlement process Andrei Veselovski, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, the officials discussed the current situation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and aspects of the dialogue between the partners involved in resolving the dispute. The interlocutors discussed the preparations for the next round of the 5+2 talks. As to the agenda of the negotiation process, Eugen Carpov pleaded for making progress in all the three conventional baskets.

The interlocutors also discussed the situation of the Moldovan-administered Latin-script schools, the access of the farmers from Dubasari district to their farmland and the situation in the Security Zone. In this respect, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the necessity of refraining from taking unilateral actions that can affect the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, saying the problems that appeared must be solved within the existing dialogue mechanisms.

For his part, Andrei Veselovski confirmed the necessity of establishing political dialogue between the players and partners involved in the settlement process, in accordance with the principles and procedures of the 5+2 negotiations. He underlined that during his mandate, effort will be made to resolve the Transnistrian conflict.
