EUBAM chief: We didn’t see changes on Transnistrian border segment

The experts of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) didn’t see changes that can cause concerns on the Transnistrian border segment, the Head of the EUBAM Mission Francesco Bastagli said in an event intended for journalists at the border crossing point Tudora, IPN reports.

Francesco Bastagli noted that there are concerns about the regional situation, with the Ukrainian authorities intensifying border control. “The EUBAM Mission increased the presence of human recourses on this segment, as the Ukrainian authorities did. We are monitoring attentively the situation. We noticed no serious changes on this segment,” he said.

As to the actions of Chisinau, Francesco Bastagli said the Moldovan authorities are taking all the necessary measures to ensure security on this segment. “I don’t think other measures should be taken as it is a sensitive issue and political undertones appear,” he stated.

EUBAM is an advisory, technical body mandated to enhance the border-management capacities of its partners – the border guard and customs authorities and other law enforcement and State agencies of Moldova and Ukraine.
