EU wants to sign Association Agreement with Moldova as soon as possible, Herman Van Rompuy

The European Union’s intention is to sign the Association Agreements initialed by Moldova and Georgia at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius as soon as possible, said the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, IPN reports.

According to the European official, the EU institutions respected the choice of the countries that wanted to come closer to the EU and put no pressure. “I’m glad that Moldova responded to the perspective of strengthening the relations with the EU and I have no doubts that this thing will bring multiple benefits. The signing of the Association Agreements with Moldova and Georgia will be a challenge, but the realization of the initiated processes in time will enable to sign these accords next year,” Herman Van Rompuy said in Vilnius.

The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso said the initialing by the EU of the Association Agreements with Moldova and Georgia, which provide for the creation of Free Trade Areas, does not mean only simple openness of the European market to these states. The two countries will get access to the largest world market and this will enable them to create workplaces. The implementation of the accords is a great challenge, but the EU will continue to offer the necessary support to Moldova and Georgia so that they create better economic conditions.
