EU urges political dialogue between Moldova's ruling party and opposition
After debating the current political crisis in the Republic of Moldova at a meeting in Brussels on Monday, the Council of the European Union concluded that there's a need for political dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition, with the aim of negotiating a viable solution to the crisis in Moldova.
An independent and transparent investigation of human rights violations and the events of 7 April is of key importance, the EU Council said, expressing its full support for the work of the Council of Europe in this regard;
The EU has taken a leading role in trying to initiate a political process between the Government and the opposition, with a view to negotiating§ a viable solution to the crisis that followed the parliamentary elections of 5 April 2009. The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic visited Chisinau on 22 April, followed by High Representative Javier Solana on 24 April.
