“The Venice Commission proposed a very good solution for overcoming the political and constitutional crisis in Moldova and this solution is to adopt modifications to only one article from the Constitution in Parliament,” the Head of the European Union’s Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel has told Info-Prim Neo, stressing this is the official position of the EU. “We hope the four political leaders (of the Alliance for European Integration – e.n.) will reach a consensus on the basis of the rule of law, the state of law and the Constitution. The Venice Commission suggested a very good solution for overcoming the political crisis, recommending amending only one constitutional article (the article concerning the procedure for electing the head of state – e.n.) in Parliament,” the European official said. The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration said they will soon have a final answer as regards the constitutional reform, which will be in the society’s favor. They made the announcement on Friday evening, after they had a closed-door meeting with representatives of the civil society and then with the U.S and European ambassadors working in Chisinau. The diplomats did not make statements for the press. Some of the opinion leaders urged the Alliance not to hurry up with the referendum and to solve the constitutional crises in Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports.
