The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola, in a meeting with the administration of the Customs Service, said the EU will support the new reforms of the Service aimed at fighting customs fraud and corruption by providing the necessary support through the EUBAM Mission and other technical assistance projects. The Customs Service’s general director Vitalie Vrabie and Pirkka Tapiola discussed the implementation stage of the joint projects and set new cooperation objectives, IPN reports.
According to the press service of the Customs Service, the EU Ambassador underlined the importance of implementing the projects financed by the EU for instituting joint control at the border crossing points Palanca and Pervomaisk-Cuciurgan.
Vitalie Vrabie said that implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU, including of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, is a top priority for the Service. In this regard, he mentioned the pilot-projects to institute joint control at border crossing points that are implemented with support from the EU. “We now have a series of mechanisms of institutional interaction with the European partners that significantly contribute to establishing integrated border management, promoting integrity and professional development,” he stated.
Vitalie Vrabie also mentioned the contribution made by the EUBAM Mission, which is one of the most important strategic partners of the Service. This helped carry out a number of activities with a major impact on the customs activity. Among the most significant are the implementation of the electronic statement and of the Business Entity conception, the reduction in the number of documents needed for clearance and simplification of the procedure for certifying the origin of goods exported to the EU.
