EU supported building of water system in Ungheni district

Households and entrepreneurs in the commune of Valea Mare, Ungheni district, have now access to drinking water, thanks to a water system built with the support of the European Union and UNDP, IPN reports.

The construction works worth more than 200,000 euros were carried out with the support of the program “EU4Moldova: Focal regions”, funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF and with the contribution of the municipality of Valea Mare. An artesian well, which extracts water from the water table, a water tower, which provides the necessary pressure in the network, was designed and a water supply network of about eight kilometers was built.

Mayor of Valea Mare Alexei Antoci said the lack of a centralized water supply system in the village of Buzduganii de Jos has been a major problem for the inhabitants of the commune and for existing and potential entrepreneurs. “The new infrastructure will help to ensure conditions for a decent living and create jobs in the village and increase the income of economic agents, which will generate additional revenues for the local budget,” he noted.

The works - from planning and design to execution and testing of the system - took place during March 2023 – March 2024.

“EU4Moldova: Focal regions” program (2019-2024) supports smart, inclusive, and sustainable socio-economic development in the Cahul and Ungheni regions to bring a better quality of life to citizens.
