The idea to recognise Transnistria internationally is lacking any prospect, EU Special Representative to Moldova, Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged, stated during a meeting with President Vladimir Voronin, on occasion of the conclusion of the diplomatic Mission to Moldova. As EU diplomat says, the way to be closer to the Moldovan legal authorities and definitive political settlement of the dispute can not have any alternative, underlining the importance of resuming the process of negotiations on Transnistrian dispute in “5+2” format. According to the press service of the Presidency, head of state stressed that the settlement of the Transnistrian problem will allow Moldova to claim an EU full membership. Voronin mentioned that at present Moldovan authorities do not ask for concrete deadlines to join the EU, but they set Moldova’s objective to advance in meeting the EU standards in diverse fields. The President has highly appreciated the activity provided by Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged as EU Special Representative, appreciating his involvement in the process of settling the Transnistrian dispute, his role in establishing the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine and in promoting the active dialogue between Moldova and EU. In the end of the meeting, President Voronin conferred on Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged the Civic Merit Medal, in sign of high appreciation of his merits for the active involvement in the process of Moldova’s integration in the European organisations. Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged was appointed as EU Special Representative to Moldova on March 23, 2005. In 2002-2003, he held the position of OSCE Representative for Moldova. On February12, the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana appointed the Hungarian diplomat Kalman Mizsei as the new EU Special Representative to Moldova. Earlier, Mizsei held the office of assistant of UN Secretary General and UNDP Director for Europe and CIS.
