The European Union allocated €7 million to Moldova for the Pilot Regional Development Project that provides assistance in developing economic, social and territorial cohesion with emphasis on the development of policies and the legal and institutional framework for an efficient development of regions in Moldova.The financing agreement was signed by acting Premier VladFilat and the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova DirkSchuebel,IPN reports.
After the signature, VladFilatsaid that the pilot project is aimed at supporting Moldova in making progress in implementing the regional development agenda It consist of two parts. The first component, with financing of €2 million, aims to improve regional statistics, while the second, of €5 million, to develop regional planning and compile a list of investment projects ready for financing.
The acting Prime Minister said that the regional statistics should be improved and adjusted to the Eurostat standards. Another result projected to be achieved within the project is to work out detailed regional plans that would cover a series of thematic areas essential for regional development, including water and supply, solid waste management, local roads of key importance and regional roads.
DirkSchuebelsaid it is a practical example that the EU didn’t freeze the assistance provided to Moldova. “All the sides involved in the given program admitted hat Moldova made significant progress in the regional development process, many of the principles identified in its guides being already implemented,” he stated. He also said that the Pilot Regional Development Project was designed especially for Moldova ands the EU hopes that Moldovawill continue to achieve results in this field.
