About 80 civil society organizations, including from the Transnistrian region, will benefit from technical assistance within an EU-funded project that will last for three years. Launched on March 14, the project envisions the organization of training seminars for nongovernmental organizations, IPN report.

In the project launch, project director Giorgios Alexopoulos said all the planned activities are designed to strengthen the institutional capacities and to improve the managerial abilities of local organizations so as to increase their potential to access financial resources. The permanent assistance bureau that will support regional and local civil society organizations is an important instrument in this regard. This will be set up within the project.

Attending the event, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said civil society has crucial importance for the democratic values of a country, being the force that can move reforms on, increase the efficiency of the activity of public institutions and facilitate the people’s active participation in the management of public processes. Civil society in the Republic of Moldova is highly respected for its activity and for the quality of its expertise. Also, the role of civil society is crucial in implementing the Association Agreement with the EU.

Daniela Cujba, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said this project forms part of the assistance provided by the European Union to Moldova in the process of implementing the Association Agreement. Civil society plays a special role in consolidating state resilience and democratic values.

The project is financed by the European Union and is implemented by the consortium managed by the Family and Childcare Center (KMOP).
