The EU formulated recommendations for harmonizing the sale market of Moldovan nonfood products and adjusting it to the European standards. It proposes that the market of nonfood products should be supervised by an authority like the Interministerial Council for Supervision of the Products and Services Market and Consumer Protection, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Economy, the move is aimed at adjusting the market supervision principles of Moldova to the EU requirements and the Regulations of the European Parliament. In a roundtable meeting, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said that the negotiations on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU are very important for Moldova. According to him, all the authorities empowered to supervise the market will be involved in drafting the bill on market supervision. The United Nations Development Program provided technical assistance for making a study of the situation in the area of market supervision. According to the recommendations of the study, the market should be supervised by all the competent authorities together. There should be signed cooperation protocols between the Consumer Protection Agency and other institutions responsible for market supervision, which should ensure a framework for systematic cooperation. Another recommendation is to set up a database with information about the safety of consumer products, including a platform for complaints that will ensure more intense communication with the business environment – the producers, importers and authorized representatives. The roundtable meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and involved representatives of 17 market supervision authorities. The discussions were aimed at identifying measures to remove the technical barriers to trade in the context of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement as regards the adjustment of the market supervision principles to the EU standards.
