EU is Moldova’s largest donor
The European Union is the largest donor of Moldova. On October 1, 2012, the EU’s projects under implementation in Moldova totaled over US$336 million. The information was made public in a meeting of the Interministerial Committee for Strategic Planning on January 4, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Government, among other important donors are the EBRD/EIB, the United States, the World Bank, Romania, and the UN. 62% of the financing intended for projects is in the form of grants. Almost 190 projects are being implemented from grants, while 25 projects from credits.
Ruslan Codreanu, head of the State Chancellery’s General Policy and Foreign Assistance Coordination Division, said that most of the projects implemented with the donors’ support are carried out in agriculture. Their value is over US$341 million.
In the meeting, there was also discussed the Chinese Government’s assistance program for Moldova and were agreed the projects that will benefit from financial assistance based on the last financial agreement signed with the Government of the People’s Republic of China in December 2011, to the value of US$9.5 million.
