EU is considering providing emergency aid to Moldovan farmers

The European Union is examining possible solutions to provide emergency aid to Moldovan farmers who suffered the most from the drought, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova Jānis Mažeiks stated in the program “Reality Concerns You” on Rlive TV, IPN reports.

“Two years ago, we identified the need for more massive involvement in the agricultural sector. Respectively, for the next year we planned more projects in the agricultural sector. But when it comes to emergency support mechanisms, we are looking at opportunities and possibilities in this regard,” said Jānis Mažeiks.

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, addressed official letters to the 27 ministers of agriculture of the European Union, as well as to the ministers of agriculture of the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Norway, asking for support for the establishment of the “Development and Solidarity Fund for Moldovan Agriculture”. The initiative aims to help farmers financially, contribute to the modernization of agricultural infrastructure, promote technological innovations and increase resilience to extreme weather conditions, which affect the productivity and stability of agriculture in the country.
