The European Union has financed more than 30 projects in various areas over the last ten years in Ungheni town, to a total amount of over 40 million euros, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ungheni Mayor Alexandru Ambros said that one of the first projects was a business incubator to provide step-by step help and advice to anyone willing to start up a business. Many businesses still have their legal office registered with the incubator even if they already manage on their own. This happens partly because obtaining a registered office elsewhere is an overly bureaucratized and complicated process, in addition to being rather costly and time-consuming, said the mayor. Alexandru Ambros said that the EU also financed the opening of a number of day centers for children and youths with disabilities, kindergartens, and projects for community members and civil society organizations on how to apply for other European projects. Visiting Ungheni, Dirk Schuebel, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said Ungheni is seen as a bridge linking Moldova to Europe. He referred in particular to the Iasi-Ungheni gas main, whose installation is supposed to start next February. Dirk Schuebel said that now virtually each European official knows about Ungheni due to this gas pipeline, which will help to diversify gas supplies to Moldova and thus potentially reduce prices.
