In the European Union, there are no illusions about the current government of Moldova and the last Eastern Partnership Summit held last week in Brussels proved this, said invitees from the panel of the program “Expertise hour” produced by Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.
Deputy chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Alexandru Slusari said the EU does not have illusions about the current government. If things had changed in the Republic of Moldova, the situation would have been different and the country would have had more chances of integration. “The status of candidate or pre-candidate for membership is much more valuable for any state as it enables to attract more EU funds. We should only be able to absorb these funds,” he stated.
Andrei Popov, president of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, said the European Union continues to speak in a diplomatic language in public, but the assessments of the developments in Moldova during private discussions are much more categorical and trenchant. The processes taking place in Moldova and the main obstacles that hamper the re-launch of the reform process and the real implementation of the European standards are realized. “The fact that there are not many viable political alternatives and that the stability delivered by the current government is a value appreciated by the EU, especially amid the multiple problems faced by this, is also realized,” stated Andrei Popov.
According to Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan, the last Eastern Partnership summit showed that none of the EaP countries have European integration perspectives. “We should improve the living standards in the country and raise them close to the EU level and should use all the possibilities offered by Europe and the market of the Russian Federation as well,” he noticed.
The plenary meeting of the fifth Eastern Partnership Summit took place in Brussels on November 24.
