The Council of the European Union, convened in the format of transport ministers of the EU member states, accepted the European Commission’s proposal to abolish the visa requirements for Moldovans with biometric passports travelling in the Schengen for a short period. Thus, the deliberative stage of the EU’s decisional procedure for liberalizing the visa regime has come to an end, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, after the Presidents of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament adopt the decision and sign the EU Regulations 539/2001, the regulations will be submitted for publication in the Official Journal of the EU. The amended regulations will come into force in 20 days of the publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
