The European Union continues to plead for resuming the “5+2” negotiations, especially that this is in the interest of both parties involved, Kalman Mizsei, the special representative of EU to Moldova said on Friday, June 15, after paying a visit to Moldova, including the Transnistrian region. The official recognised that the Transnistrian dispute is a difficult problem. EU wants to find a long-term solution for the settlement of this problem, and Moldova should be again whole, but negotiations are needed in this respect, he said. According to him, this conflict has neither religious nor ethnical grounds, but it occurred because of certain interests and it is time to settle it. Also, Miszei said that several months ago, the Government in Chisinau presented a package of optimum measures for the settlement of the conflict and considers that it can be made public, especially that the proposals take into consideration all the parties, thus no radical measures are being promoted. Kalman Miszei also said that at present Moldova negotiates with EU the autonomous trade preferences, from which the Transnistrian companies will benefit as well, but only the companies which will be registered by the constitutional authorities. He considers that this is a chance for Moldova, including for the Transnistrian region to improve the living standards, in light of the fact that at present Moldova is Europe’s poorest country. Those who are against these economic relations, or talk about an economic blockade are against the prosperity of Moldova, including of the Transnistrian region, the cited source said. Referring to the situation occurred in Corjova village, namely in what concerns the violation of the right to vote of its residents, the EU representative said that the participation in elections is a fundamental right and hopes that both parties will avoid a conflict and will ensure the participation in the polls. Kalman Miszei was appointed as special EU representative for Moldova at the beginning of this year.
