EU calls on civil society in Moldova to back democratic reforms
The European Union Delegation to Moldova launched the second call for Civil Society Organization to submit projects that support the democratic reforms, promote the human rights, the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Within this call for proposals, the EU will offer support of one million euros to the participating organizations and we expect to receive many proposals,” Political Officer of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Lorenz said in a meeting of the EU’s Press Club.
The EU’s European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights is an instrument for financing civil society worldwide. The European financing method consists of the global component and the country-based support scheme.
“The total sum available for 2011-2013 is 63 million euros. About 20 projects are currently implemented in Moldova. The completed projects produced results that satisfied us,” said Dirk Lorenz.
According to him, the partnership with civil society is the core of the EU’s neighborhood policy, while Moldova’s civil society is viable. The organizations can file projects promoting democracy, human rights, the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press until next February.
